Five Things Friday Part 2

This week sure was a killer! I thought Friday would never get here! I have some fun plans this weekend including a fancy dinner with my husband, bridesmaid dress shopping and adventure day in Milwaukee with some of my best girlfriends, and  brunch.  I’m really hoping that the weather cooperates for us because lately it’s been cold, rainy and miserable.

I realize that I have been rather absent from my blog during the past couple weeks. I’ll be the first to admit that I have been slacking big time in the whole blogging process and I’m not entirely sure why. I started out extremely excited about this new endeavor and for some reason, I became distracted and a little discouraged. I promised myself that I would do better, and because I want this blog to become successful, I need to focus more of my time and energy into it.

Moving on to my second edition of Five Things Friday!

  • Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow

During my regular trip to Ulta the other day to replenish my “age gracefully creams,”( ie: anti-wrinkle eye cream and heavy duty moisturizer) I stumbled upon this little gem at the Benefit counter. Okay, who am I kidding, it’s SO easy to get distracted in a place like Ulta because THEY HAVE ALL THE THINGS, and OHMAGAH I need that new round brush and more lip-glosses, and ooooh I most definitely need that pineapple enzyme facial mask because it’s going to change my life! Anyways…. my daily makeup routine doesn’t consist of much; however, sometimes I do like to be daring, and by daring I mean try a new shade of neutral eyeshadow or brown mascara instead of black; I know what you’re thinking, what a Daredevil! This cream eyeshadow from Benefit peaked my interest for a couple reasons: 1. It’s a cream and it’s easy for me to apply ( I tend to be less than skilled in the eye makeup application process), and 2. It’s crease free, so you don’t need a primer base AND it stays on all day! I purchased it in Birthday Suit (pictured above), and I have been wearing it everyday since. If I am being honest though, I am a lover of all things Benefit and I have yet to purchase something that I have not absolutely LOVED. The Benefit comes in all sorts of fun colors  like “Always a Bridesmaid,” which is an amazing shade of shimmery lavender, and “Blue My Mind,” a gorgeous shade of icy blue.

  • White Pizza Grilled Cheese

Pizza is one of my colossal weaknesses and my sincerest adoration and obsession with cheese is more than palpable, so imagine my extreme giddiness over this wonderfully cheesey pizza/grilled cheese concoction from Jessica at HowSweetEats. There are no words to describe how deliciously awesome this is. So awesome that I want to cram it all into my mouth right this minute.

Ravina Festival is an outdoor summer concert venue in Highland Park, IL. There is outdoor dining, shopping, and other fun things to do in the area. You are allowed to pack picnics, bring lawn chairs and blankets, and byob. When the weather is nice (and it usually is in the summer) it’s so fun to sit outside and enjoy some great music. This summer they have a great line up including Heart on August 8th, so my girlfriends and I are planning to purchase lawn tickets, pack a delicious picnic and enjoy the classics from Heart like “Crazy on You”, “Barracuda” and “Magic Man.” Summer can’t come soon enough! Before then, I think I should invest in this handy outdoor wine holder or perhaps this convenient wine tumbler

  •  Cross Body Purses

I love love cross body bags. They are so sensible and adorable and I love not having to deal with a bulky, heavy bag or a small clutch that I can barely fit anything into. I also love how they come with a bunch of pockets and zippers to organize and fit all of your items safely inside. I purchased this fun teal Merona cross body bag from Target before my honeymoon because I knew it would be more practical to carry it around versus anything else. Now it is my everyday purse!

If you have a bigger budget, maybe this Rebecca Minkoff  is more your style. I know that if I had $300+ to spend I would totally splurge on it. *Hint at future birthday gift*

I am officially obsessed with all things Veronica Roth and Divergent . I finished the first book in February and we saw the movie last weekend (in my opinion the movie was just okay compared to the book). I am almost finished with Insurgent  and I just can’t get enough. I’ve even convinced my husband to start reading them. The thing that attracts me to this series is the conflicted heroine, Beatrice aka Tris. I love that she is strong minded, willed and opinionated but at the same time shows her weaknesses, struggles, and insecurities. She is everything that a strong woman should be, and at only 16 years old knows more about life than most 20-somethings. As morbid as it may sound, I am a huge fan of dystopian worlds and post-post-apocalyptic settings as in the Hunger Games and The Road . The human instinctual need for survival is so real and primal as well as the instinct to protect loved ones. And even though not all of these stories have happy endings, they still manage to evoke feelings of joy and happiness throughout their journeys.
